 August-September 2010

Welcome . . .

Friends of mine at Chillicothe Paints vs Lorain Ironmen prospect league baseeball game - GO PAINTS!Hello friends . . . it's time for an update from Folk 'n' Fiber. As I sit in my studio looking out my windows, the AC is full on and we are battling another 90-degree day. The weeds are about the only thing with enough strength to battle through this heat. A promise of some cooler days is in our weekly forecast, so I look forward to spending some time on the porch with a good book and my hooking frame.  'Back-to-school' is a phrase that is lingering in the backs of many minds these days . . . to me, it means Fall will be here too soon and another summer will be but a memory.  Be sure to get the digital camera out and take some photos of your garden, at the beach or a baseball game and get some shots of family & friends - make some memories and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Shop through my web site pages and take 10% off any web site purchase of $10 or more from now through the end of August! Use coupon code END-AUG when you check out to calculate your discount. I don't offer general sales very often unless you are a e-newsletter subscriber, so take advantage of this End of Summer Sale and save some cash on the things you need or want!

Resources

Do you practice 'green' in your rug hooking and wool-work? I love to work with overdyed wool! I love the texture and mottling that it gives my hooking. But, the chemical dyes used to overdye can be hazardous and, if not properly disposed of, hut the environment. I am so pleased to share with you that my dear Texas friend, Jo Ellen Dismukes of Lacey Jane Primitives, will soon offer all natural overdyed wool. I have previewed some of her new colors created from the dyes that nature provides and they are luscious. So check those out real soon and "Be Green" when you hook your next rug!

Fraktur Rug Progress

My fraktur rug progress has practically been at a stand-still this month; it's been so hot and I've been so busy that hooking has taken a backseat to everything else. I am anxious to get back at it though and my frame is set up where I see it all the time -- it is calling to me! I hope that I will be able to show you more next time - who knows, maybe I will finish it by then. That would be a good thing, because I have so many more designs floating in and out of my head, that I really want to to get another one on the frame soon.  This is a good time to remind you that I do custom rugs and also create custom designs for rug hookers. If you have a rug design that you would like to see on foundation so you can begin hooking it, or you want a completed rug for your home or to present as a gift, please email me so we can consult about it.

Fall Classes - Sign Up Now!

I will begin teaching rug hooking classes again soon. We will start at the end of August going though Fall, so sign up now if you are in north central Ohio (I am located about 30 miles SW of Cleveland.) Bring some friends and have some fun! You can read all the details HERE. I also offer group classes for punch needle embroidery and there will be a few workshops coming this Fall, as well.

If you are a former student of mine who wants to hook with a group, let me know that, too. I will host a hookers' group once a week for general hooking and chatting. My in-home studio space is limited, so sign up soon to reserve your spot in either group!

Well, there you have it - that's what been keeping me busy lately.  Is there something you'd like to see in the eNewsletter? Just use my Feedback Form and let me know . . . this eNewsletter is for you, my subscribers, so let me hear from you!

Until next time . . .     Sally
