God Bless America

Issue: May-June 2009

Welcome . . .

to this issue of my e-newsletter! Another month has flown by and I really have been working hard. There's lots to tell you so let's get started.

quick links

Quick Links are links to other websites that I think you will find useful and interesting. Places that are fun to explore, articles that are interesting to read, and people I just love!

Subscribers: Do you have a favorite website or shop you'd like to share with everyone? Send me the link in an email and I will share related information in a future Quick Links column.

Etsy.com

You love handcrafted stuff, right?  Well, if you haven't spent an afternoon browsing all the goods at Etsy, you better get over there! People are unbelievably talented out there . . . everything from jewelry to furniture, wearables, and everything else you can think of. If someone can make it, it's there. I will never buy jewelry anywhere else again. You owe it to yourself to check it out -- especially if you need a gift -- you'll find something that no one else will have!

Business owners: Want to advertise here? Just  email and ask how.

New Additions

I have been busy getting photographs ready and loaded on the web site. You will find many additions of finished goods to the Rug Hooking, Punch Needle and Folk Art Textiles pages. You'll find a few new items in Littlewares and Antiques, too. I told you, I've been busy!

I have a few more photos to get handled and I will add some more items soon. I also uploaded lots of fun stuff in my Etsy shop -- check out my new upcycled denim bags for your summer outfits.

There is a new business segment at Folk 'n' Fiber called "a little bit behind©" -- I am using vintage and cast off jeans to create one-of-a-kind handbags. To start off, all the denim bags will be listed in my Etsy shop.

Did you miss out on the Hook-a-Month project last time? I am offering a new pattern for a spring Hook-a-Month project. There will again be only a limited number of kits - when they are all spoken for, that's it. No more. There are several kit options to make things more affordable for you to participate. If you have questions, send me an email.

Be an Advocate for Your Local Shops

My best friend has an antiques and gift shop in Amherst, OH. You have heard me talk about it before (I painted her ceiling mural, remember?) Anyway, she told me about a new, grassroots movement called  the 3/50 project, designed to help support the small independent shops across America. Even though, I don't have a physical shop and therefore, can't participate, I wanted to spread the word. It is about helping to keep small businesses from going under, about stimulating the economy in ways that we can, and helping keep small towns across America thriving.

Please follow the link to the web site and read about it. And be sure to print out the flyer and take it to your favorite local shops so they can participate and get listed on the 3/50 project web site. It is free to business owners. Heck, we shop anyway, right? So why not help those folks who work so hard to bring business to small towns across this country? As Martha would say, "it's a good thing."

Happy Memorial Day and Flag Day -- God Bless America!
Now go lay in the Sun!
