Issue: Sept/Oct. (Fall) 2008 |
Welcome . . .
to this issue of my
e-newsletter! Since time seems to always get away from me, I am trying
to cover my bases with this "Fall" issue (since September has somehow
run into October.
Before I have to start
raking leaves, I am trying hard to get things ready for a Fall class and
to get kits together to start going out in October for the Hook-a-Month
project. Our days are getting shorter and evenings are already cool and
brisk here on the north coast of Ohio. Makes me think of apples,
pumpkins, and all things autumn. Why is this season so short? I just
love these days!
My concerns and prayers
are again with my hooking friends in Texas where they experienced
hurricane Ike. Lives were devastated and I am just so sad to see them
hurting. Prayers are offered for everyone affected again by the terrible
weather. If you can help in any way, please do so - we never know when
we might find ourselves or our loved ones in need of help.
Shortly after I wrote
this newsletter, my Mother passed away suddenly. If you place an order
or sent an email, please understand that I am not able to correspond or
get orders ready as quickly as usual. I am still working and accepting
orders, but at a slightly slower pace while I deal with my mother's
estate. Thank you. |

Update
Last time
I mentioned here that I would be demonstrating rug hooking in the
Early American Life
magazine booth at the Yankee Peddler Festival in Canal Fulton on
Sept 14. Well, hurricane Ike (or the remnants of it) came roaring
through here that day and blew away half of the vendors! I had made the
decision the day before that I was not going to attend the festival with
that kind of weather forecast. If you came looking for me, I am sorry I
wasn't there to see you, but I am glad that I stayed home, out of the
wind and rain! Maybe I'll see you there next year!

New Hooking Tools in Stock

I am offering a new rug
hooking frame from Bee Creek Ltd at K's Creations! It's an octagonal
frame on a swivel lap base for the easiest hooking ever. Swivels and
tilts to make hooking comfortable and the shape helps prevent those
"dang!" moments when you bang your elbow on the frame corners as you
swivel it around.
Take a closer look . . .
But that's not all! Also
from our friends at Bee Creek, we have a sweet little portable cutter
stand. So if you are looking for an easy way to travel with your cutter
to classes, camps, and guild meetings - this is it! The legs are quick
and easy to remove and they store right beneath the stand top to make
the portable cutter stand completely flat and ready to travel. No more
looking and wondering where you will be able to clamp your cutter when
you get to your hooking destination. Oh yeah - it's really affordable,
as well.
Check it out . . .
To save delivery time
and shipping charges, I've made arrangements with Bee Creek: I send
your orders to them and they build your frame or cutter stand and drop
ship it directly to you from their workshop. So easy!

Buy Handmade!
I have had a shop at
Etsy.com for a few
months now, and I can spend hours and hours just 'window shopping' at
Etsy. I recently discovered that Etsy has a street team for fiber arts.
It's called Etsy FAST (Fiber Arts Street Team) and so I joined. I wanted
to mention it because if you are a knitter or like to punch hook rugs,
or you just love yarn, these girls have some awesome fibers for you!
There are many members who overdye yarns and offer them on Etsy. Type
etsyFASTteam in the search box at Etsy.com
and see for yourself. I am still trying to get all the drool out of my
keyboard!
If you aren't familiar
with Etsy.com, please do yourself a favor and just get in there and poke
around. I have found the most amazing gifts and awesome hand-crafted
goods there. They even have a section of Supplies where you can find
everything from paper to metals, and everything in between. And if you
are a Pandora bracelet lover, type Pandora beads
in that search box - oh my goodness! Prices are fabulous and the work is
extraordinary. I'm just sayin'. Remember, handmade gifts for the
holidays show your loved ones that you really took some time to find the
'perfect' gift for them, and it will be one that nobody else is getting.

In the Works . . .

I love antique needlework, especially old samplers. Can you imagine
making our little girls sit down at ages 8 or 10 to stitch the fine
samplers being collected today? If those little girls from the 1800s
knew that their needlework is now commanding thousands of dollars, they
just would never believe it! For the same reason I began making my own
hooked rugs (the prices of the old ones went sky high), I am now
designing a line of antique sampler adaptations to work in punch needle.
They will be miniaturized versions of actual antique samplers, and
worked with a single strand of overdyed cotton floss and silk threads.
I have completed one that I worked with Weeks Dye Works quilting
thread to get the really fine details. I am looking forward to
experimenting with the silk threads next. I will keep you updated as
this project comes along. If you love old needle work and you do punch
needle work, I think you will love these samplers. Tea dyeing will be a
must for these projects, so practice up!
